North Atlantic States Carpenters Benefit Funds... is Hiring a Fund Accountant Near Wilmington, MA

Position Summary:
This full-time, in office position, located in Wilmington, MA, requires a diverse knowledge of accounting and reporting in addition to strong general ledger skills analytical and interpersonal skills as well as full cycle accounting experience. The Fund Accountant will provide general accounting function from data entry through general ledger close and reconciliation for a multibillion-dollar Benefits Fund.

The NASCBF Fund Office has for more than sixty years administered retirement, health and other benefit funds to active and retired plan participants of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters across New England and major parts of New York state. The NASCBF is a diverse, multi-generational office of approximately 110 employees with offices in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York state.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position includes the following responsibilities across all Funds. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborate and perform all general accounting tasks from data entry through general ledger close for entire region.
  • Prepare a variety of monthly reconciliations and analysis including but not limited to contributions, benefit distributions, administrative expenses, and fund balance on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Calculate and prepare online tax payments to multiple jurisdictions.
  • Perform on-line banking functions such as electronic transactions and transaction research.
  • Analyze, report, communicate and correct variances in all accounting areas including but not limited to taxes.
  • Provide support, and where applicable prepare, various journal entries, GL postings, GL review/analysis and reconciliations required.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports as needed.
  • Record and monitor interfund transactions for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare annual Form 1099’s for vendors and benefit recipients for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare, reconcile and maintain audit schedules for use by the Funds auditors to track and analyze general ledger activity.
  • Collaborate and assist Controller and Accounting Supervisor with management and fulfillment of independent external audit requirements.
  • Engage and coordinate with external auditors to accomplish a timely and accurate completion of regulatory filings/deadlines.
  • Assist in the gathering, preparation and reconciliation of necessary and pertinent information required for the various Funds’ regulatory filings.
  • Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time.
  • Cross train on all department functions for multiple Funds to provide support when needed.
  • Provide support to Accounting Supervisor and Controller for tasks needed across all Funds reporting including the New York area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business management required.
  • Intermediate accounting skills along with strong analytical skills and abilities.
  • Excellent computer skills particularly with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Five year’s general accounting experience preferred. Public accounting, and employee benefit plan experience a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to train in all areas of accounting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to effectively interact with internal staff and external entities and service providers.
  • CPA or Masters preferred but not required.
